Allow me to quote the most famous of all statements of the Declaration of Independence that laid the foundation of the United States of America (emphasis by me):

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

If someone—by free, conscious choice and for any reason other than fending off an imminent threat to his own life and without a fair process—decides to deprived someone of the most fundamental of these rights, the right to life, shouldn't he then be seen as an enemy to the foundation of the United States rather than as a hero? Even more so if he was elected for the most powerful of all political posts the United States have to offer? Nobody should stand above the law, not even the president.
